In this interview with Grace Lydiatt Shaw, Grace Matthews describes her career in performance. Matthews begins with a description of the time she spent at Hart House Theatre under the direction of Edward Stone and Nancy Pyper. Next she moved from Toronto to Bala with John Holden's Artist Colony theatre, and then with the same troupe to Winnipeg. Bob Christie, Isabel Price and Bud Knapp are mentioned in connection with the John Holden Company. Next Matthews describes her work in New York City, and her work for CBC before and during World War Two. After her marriage to Court Benson, Matthews says the couple returned to New York for career reasons. Matthews describes her stage and TV work in the United States since the Second World War and explains the experience of raising children while working in the theatre.
