The series pertains to renovation and fit-out projects for churches and chapels carried out by Desmarais and Robitaille, mainly in the 1980s and 1990s, in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes and the northeastern United States.The chapels subject to the work are either in places with a religious vocation, such as convents or monasteries, or in secular places: hospitals, military bases, educational institutions, cultural community centers, cemeteries or funeral homes. Rare projects have also been carried out in places of worship other than Christian (altar made for a Synagogue) or have no religious significance, such as choir benches made for the Montreal Symphony Orchestra.

The series contains numerous technical and architectural drawings as well as a large number of photographs. It also contains project sheets, order sheets, copies of contracts between Desmarais et Robitaille and the churches or parishes placing the orders as well as with the architects, artists, craftsmen and contractors involved in the work; it also contains correspondence with the architects, artisans and contractors responsible for designing and carrying out the renovations as well as other project-related documents (calls for tenders, bids, cost estimates and invoices).
