The fonds consists of records documenting the activities of Jack Kelly with the National Ballet of Canada, Peking Opera Company, Moscow Circus, and other productions including the Broadway show Mary, Mary. They include: photos of Celia Franca, Jack Kelly and members of the ballet company; programmes; touring schedules and other travelling stage employee documents; correspondence related to employment; and a floor plan of the former Palace Theatre (Hamilton, ON).

Kelly, Jack, 1919-1991 : Jack Kelly was born in Hamilton in 1919. As a young man he worked and acquired skills as both an electrician and a carpenter. His first involvement in the performing arts was perhaps as an usher at the Palace Theatre, which hosted both motion pictures and live performers. He used his position there to develop a variety of non-artistic production skills that would lead to further work opportunities.

By the 1950s, Kelly received offers to work with travelling shows including the National Ballet Company of Canada, Moscow State Circus, Peking Opera, and the travelling Broadway show Mary, Mary. He would regularly travel ahead of the show to the next performance venue, to arrange logistics, lighting, shipment of all manner of materials, and supervise the work on-site. There were stops in towns and venues of all sizes across Canada, the USA, and Mexico. However he declined a request to accompany the Moscow Circus to Cuba during the Cold War.

After returning to Hamilton permanently in the mid-1960s, he did work at the Royal Alexandra Theatre and at the Canadian National Exhibition. He was a member of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators of the United States and Canada.

He passed away in Hamilton in 1991.
