Day 2: Opening greeting by Barb Garlow; JT comments about oral tradition, unwritten constitutions and discusses symbols, such as what is found in territorial belts and sequences of symbols; describes difficulties of translating to Great Law; summarizes the story of the woman who is the mother of all nations; the PM tells her he wants her at the assembly he has called.Peacemaker tells of Peace Power and Righteousness; Great War chief accepts the message for himself; the assistant doubts the message and wants the PM to be tested by climbing into a tall tree which grows over a gorge; the branch will be cut down; if the PM lives, the assistant will accept the message; message accepted; Further explanation of Peace Power and righteousness; Hiawatha gets his name; GWC gets his name, Degalyhoga; so the first three lords are elevated. A break is introduced; Ron speaks to crowd, to take a break; plea for donations, discussion of Institute work for the people of all nations; Mohawk chief Richard Maracle; No transcript for this section; Jake talks about getting deeper and deeper into the Great Law, discusses how other nations want to hear of Great Law, even Cree up in James Bay area - this discussion is interesting for the process of oral histories.~Peacemaker is asked how do the non-warring nations who have accepted Great Law protect themselves from warlike nations; PM is going to take message to those nations; PM tells of the powerful man he must visit; when the man hollers, the people must meet at the standing stone; tells of loss of Hiawatha's three daughters and how Hiawatha developed the elderberry wampum strings to aid in easing grief; an aside of territorial rights, land claims, and warriors; return to relating how to ease the grief of another with actions and words of sympathy; talks about the power of wampum and asking aspects of nature and of society to work to bring power to the people; returns to description of sympathy strings of elderberry and how to clear the mind, just as the sky is clear.~Discussion of languages and how to learn them; further description of Hiawatha's way of condolence using wampum strings; makes reference to death and how the cycle is broken is one year; this leads into telling of 13 moons, and nature's cycle and ceremonies of blessing the seeds; relates how every nation, every clan has a council fire and if there is a loss, how the council fire is to be re-lit; role of faith-keepers described; role of clan mother to elevate chief; role of chief in using wampum; relates that wampum art classes being given at Institute; that to learn how to be married, watch nature, that nature will teach a couple how to get along.~Reminds people about oral and written constitution; reminds of wampum strings known as sympathy strings; reveals difficulties speaker of oral tradition has; encourages young people to learn their language; notes that people ask about bad things, but not about good things; Question and Answer session. <289mn 45s>
