Opening ceremony; reminds people about oral and written constitution; reminds of wampum strings known as sympathy strings; reveals difficulties speaker of oral tradition has; encourages young people to learn their language; notes that people ask about bad things, but not about good things.Tells of wampum belts and principal fire and power within them; talks of treaty rights and value of knowing history; gives some details of clan system and names different clans; prohibition of marrying within same clan; keeping lineage direct so titles remain in the correct line; responsibility of elders to know who is related to whom; picks up story of Peacemaker visiting the very evil man and when he hollers like thunder, the Confederate Lords are to meet at the standing stone; Hiawatha goes to a shelter near a village, and is invited by the Chief to come to the village; JT talks about the tradition of a runner bringing invitations using wampums.~JT talks about fake wampum and the power of real wampum; picks up the story of Hiawatha being invited to the village by legal invitation (wampum); Hiawatha relates the story of Peacemaker bringing news of peace power and righteousness; tells of Peacemaker coming back and runners being sent to invite him to the village; essentially a summary of the Great Law so far. Certain people were filmed during the break, including Wray Anderson (?) who translates an Ecuadorian man who discusses the prophesy that Eagle and Condor meet every 50 yrs. Question of whether some Natives from Ecuador could join Confederacy.Ganaweda returns to Hiawatha to go to the standing stone; two runners are sent; JT comments on tradition of sending runners; tells of the singing of the roll call; tells that host nations build a fire of welcome; JT sings welcoming song which is done in several languages; comments on necessity of knowing language, traditions and customs and responsibility of elders to teach and of young people to learn; tells how Peacemaker elevated more Confederate Lords (chiefs) and created the Confederacy.~Question & Answer session with JT and other elders; for transcript of most of this see Vol. 1 f. 8 2/2 p. 26-34. <327mn 45s>

It is possible that this editing was produced live during the recitation, using feed from the 3 cameras.~7. Tape 1 runs for 64mn 15s, tape 2 runs for 60mn 56s, tape 3 runs for 60mn 11s, tape 4 runs for 62mn 40s, tape 5 runs for 63mn 37s, and tape 6 runs for 16mn 6s.~8. First item on tape 6.~9. Although this is identified as Reel 15, it is in fact the 14th tape of 39. It had been mis-numbered.
