Andrew McArthur participated in an oral history interview conducted by Roger Chiason on behalf of the CANDIB Project for Directorate of History and Heritage (DHH). he interview was conducted on 27/05/2010 in Halifax, NS. Mr. McArthur gives a brief account of his early education and training in Scotland, his immigration to Canada, and his employment with Saint John Shipbuilding Limited (SJSL) until his assumption of the position of President. Insight into SJSL's involvement in the construction of HMCS Protecteur and HMCS Preserver while he held various company positions prior to becoming president. He then outlines the early stages of the CPF project leading to the award of the contract to SJSL as the prime contractor. The interview then shifts to the period in which Mr. McArthur and a number of other investors purchased Halifax Dartmouth Industries Limited (HDIL), and during which he served as president. The focus on the interview is his and HDIL's involvement as shipbuilder and major sub-contractor to SNC-Lavalin during the construction of the MCDV's.
