Series consists of records created or maintained by Statistics Canada's Health Division, as well as select other health-related records created or maintained by Statistics Canada.
Health Division registry files, dating from 1937 to 1977, are included in linked RG31 accessions 1984-85/018 GAD and 1984-85/060 GAD. Included are files related to: hospital morbidity (from the 1500-1700 record block range); associations, clubs and societies (4000 block); committees (4010 block); general operations (7000 block); co-operation and liaison (7025 block); mental health (7300 block); project and survey files (7070+ blocks); agreements, requests for information, related surveys, and more (the 8000+ block); vital statistics and events (8500 block); and hospital morbidity (9000 blocks). Also included are various provincial and hospital liaison files and files of "accident information."
Records relating to the Canada Health Survey 1978 are in RG31 volume 1691. The records consist of copies of the questionnaire "Lifestyle and Your Health," a physical measure questionnaire, and an interviewer administered questionnaire. Also included is No. 78-1 of the Canada Health Survey Working Paper Series, entitled "Output Variable and Progressed Tables." The Canada Health Survey was initiated by the Department of National Health and Welfare and by Statistics Canda in response to demands for better data on the health status of Canadians. The survey was established in 1975 and was disbanded in June 1979.
Sample, empty forms relating to radiation and psychiatric hospital admittance/release, dating from 1974 - 1975, are in RG31 volume 1691.
Canadian Sickness Survey Household Record Cards, dating from 1950 to 1951, are included in linked RG31 accession with former BAN no. 117-000257-8. The cards are in booklet form detailing: household information - name of person, occupation, income, environment; individual sickness records - hospital and medical coverage and sickness records; expenditure cards - expenditures in different services such as medical doctors, dentists, nursing care, etc.; and health services not obtained - type of service that could have been obtained free of charge. The records are arranged from east to west by province and therein numerically by sampling unit and household numbers.
Questionnaires and general files from the 1986 Annual Hospital Survey are included in linked RG31 accession with BAN no. 1997-01003-8.
