Cette série contient des documents d'exploitation créés et conservés par le Laboratoire national de microbiologie (LNM). La plupart portent sur la construction et l'établissement du Centre scientifique canadien de santé humaine et animale à Winnipeg. Des documents sont également disponibles sur le Comité de liaison communautaire, en charge de la communication entre le LNM et la Ville de Winnipeg (une relation importante, si on considère la nature hautement infectieuse des maladies traitées dans le laboratoire et la proximité des installations et du domicile de certains résidents). On y retrouve également des documents sur la transition du LNM de Santé Canada vers l'Agence de la santé publique du Canada.
Parmi le contenu préservé se trouvent aussi des comptes-rendus de différents conseils d'administration, notamment le Comité exécutif ministériel, le Comité de direction régional, le Comité exécutif de la Direction générale, le Comité directeur des DG, le Conseil supérieur de gestion, Comité de gestion de la Direction, le comité exécutif du laboratoire et le Conseil consultatif des sciences. Des évaluations de programme et des plans stratégiques et opérationnels de l'organisation peuvent aussi être consultés.
De plus, certains des documents conservés présentent des comptes-rendus de divers comités nationaux, internationaux, interministériels et opérationnels et de groupes de travail au sein desquels le LNM agit comme dirigeant ou comme participant majeur. En voici la liste : comité consultatif sur les pathogènes spéciaux, Forum canadien des laboratoires de santé publique, comité sur le SRAS, comité Naylor, International Centre for Infectious Diseases, Comité de la biotechnologie, Comité consultatif national sur le SRAS, Western Canada Infectious Disease Research Network, comité exécutif de l'Organisation panaméricaine de la Santé, réunion sur le virus du Nil occidental, comité sur les mesures et interventions en cas d'urgence, groupe de travail sur les maladies transmissibles, comité du Réseau des laboratoires de santé publique du Canada, comité de l'Académie canadienne des sciences de la santé, Initiative canadienne de vaccin contre le VIH, comité sur les incidents chimiques, biologiques, radiologiques, nucléaires et à l'explosif, et déploiement de l'équipe d'intervention d'urgence en matière de bioterrorisme.
La série contient aussi des dossiers décrivant le rôle du LNM comme représentant du Canada au sein du Global Health Security Action Group (GHSAG), mis sur pied après les attaques du 11 septembre 2001 afin d'unir les pays pour lutter contre le bioterrorisme et améliorer la sécurité sanitaire mondiale. Le GHSAG est composé de ministres, secrétaires, commissaires de la santé et hauts fonctionnaires en santé de la Commission européenne, de la France, de l'Allemagne, de l'Italie, du Japon, du Mexique, du Royaume-Uni, des États-Unis et de l'Organisation mondiale de la Santé. Le GHSAG planifie et pose des gestes concrets pour améliorer la sécurité sanitaire mondiale, et joue un rôle de réseau de communication et de réaction rapide lors des crises de santé publique.
Sont également disponibles des documents stratégiques et opérationnels sur l'élaboration de principes d'éthique de la recherche, la stratégie de sécurité sanitaire, les ententes de protection et de promotion de la santé publique, le rapport du Comité consultatif national sur le SRAS et la Santé publique (rapport Naylor) et le rapport de l'Enquête sur Staphylococcus aureus résistant à la méthicilline d'origine communautaire à Arviat (rapport du Nunavut).
Enfin, la série contient un dossier intitulé « Eskimo Cultures Registry - 1968-1973 », géré par le LNM.
Les chercheurs devraient également consulter la série du Laboratoire de lutte contre la maladie dans le fonds du ministère de la Santé pour obtenir d'autres documents produits par l'organisation ayant précédé le LNM (MIKAN 193663).
