This film shows some of the celebration and pageantry that accompanied the Hudson's Bay Company's 250th anniversary in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, and Victoria. In 1670, King Charles the Second granted a charter to the Hudson's Bay Company and 240 years later the same company celebrates the event, with pomp and pageant, in the five great cities of the Canadian West. In Winnipeg, a celebration is staged on the Red River; Sir Robert Kindersley, Governor of the Hudson's Bay Company, presents medals; Indians hold a pow wow; Indians take a ride in an airplane. In Edmonton, crowds line Jasper Avenue as the parade passes; Lieutenant-Governor Brett and Sir Kindersley review the parade from a carriage; floats depict the early history of the company; an Indian and his family is shown seated by a campfire. In Calgary, crowds and the parade on 7th Avenue are seen; a group of children who won prizes in the essay competition are also shown; the parade passes through Victoria Park. In Vancouver, Sir Kindersley, Premier Oliver and the Lieutenant-Governor preside over the parade; among the floats are ones representing the I.O.D.E. and the municipality of Point Grey; crowds are seen on Georgia and Granville Streets, as well as in Stanley Park. In Victoria, celebrations are combined with those for the "Queen's Birthday"; the pageant is shown in front of the Empress Hotel, and from the steps of the Parliament Buildings; Indian War canoes from the North Island escort the Company's Governor to the Gorge; the final shots show the Klootchman's War Canoe Race. <5mn 16s>
