Cette série témoigne de la carrière artistique de Jean Lapointe depuis son association avec Jérôme Lemay dans le groupe Les Jérolas, jusqu'à ses derniers spectacles avec sa fille Marie Elizabeth, en passant par ses nombreux spectacles qu'il a présentés tant au Canada qu'en France et en Belgique. Elle comprend de nombreux albums de coupures de presse, des affiches de spectacles et des éphémérides relatant sa carrière d'humoriste, de fantaisiste, de monologuiste, de chanteur et de comédien.
Une documentation riche illustre plusieurs spectacles sur scène dont Démaquillé (1975), Un an déjà (1976), Showman (1984), Porte à rire (1985), Attend'rire (1988, 1989), Le pianiste du Raindrop (1991), Un dernier coup de balai (1993), etc. Deux albums de coupures de presse montrent le début du duo comique Les Jérolas dans les cabarets et salles de spectacle, au côté de vedettes comme Édith Piaf ainsi que leur passage au Ed Sullivan Show.
La série comprend quelques pièces de correspondance avec des personnalités connues comme Céline Dion, plusieurs télégrammes de félicitations d'artistes, de producteurs et autres artisans du spectacle, d'amis, etc. (en autres Jean-Pierre Ferland, René Angélil, Michel Drucker, André Ouellet). Elle comprend aussi quelques sketches écrits pour Les Jérolas et des textes de chansons.
La série comprend de nombreuses photographies professionnelles et personnelles de Jean Lapointe. Les photographies illustrent les différents moments de la carrière artistique et privée de Jean Lapointe. On le voit sur scène dans ses spectacles avec Les Jérolas (Jérôme Lemay), comme chanteur, interprétant des personnages, avec des amis, avec sa famille ou dans des événements spéciaux comme les galas, nominations à l'Ordre national du Québec, à l'Ordre du Canada, les téléthons ou encore dans des moments de loisirs. La plupart des photographies professionnelles sont le fruit des photographes Michel Tremblay, François Rivard, Linda Boucher et Jean Vallières.
Parmi les personnalités représentées sur les photographies, outre Jean Lapointe et ses proches collaborateurs comme Marcel Lefebvre, Jean Bissonnette et Bertrand Petit, figurent Jérôme Lemay, Raymond Devos, Michel Drucker, Fred Mella (soliste des Compagnons de la chanson), Dominique Michel, Yvon Deschamps, Jean-Pierre Ferland, Monique Leyrac, Janette Bertrand, Jean-Guy Moreau, Daniel Mercure, Guy Latraverse, Andrée Boucher, Michel Côté, André Ouellet, Jean Pelletier, Gérard D. Landry, Marcel Aubut, Paul Anka, Petula Clark et bien d'autres des milieux du spectacle, du sport et de la politique.
La série inclut aussi des cassettes audio de spectacles en France notamment à Bobino en 1984 et au Canada, de sketches, de chansons de ses différents albums (dont Chante-la ta chanson, Si on chantait ensemble, Jongleur, Profil, etc.) comprenant à l'occasion des mixages finaux, d'entrevues, de lectures de critiques de ses spectacles et d'annonces publicitaires de spectacles et d'albums. Une cassette comprend un enregistrement d'un numéro avec Yvon Deschamps, Clémence Desrochers et Ginette Reno ainsi qu'un hommage à Jean Lapointe.
Huit (8) bandes sonores font entendre, des présonorisations (playbacks) de chansons et de sketches, des trames musicales de spectacles et des mixages. Quatre (4) enregistrements de bobines vidéo comprennent des portraits de Jean Lapointe, Le pianiste du Raindrop et le remix de la chanson Mémé.
La série inclut également une entrevue sur microcassette avec Jean Lapointe qui raconte sa carrière artistique, sa vie personnelle, ses passions et sa carrière politique comme sénateur.
La série comprend aussi des vidéocassettes et des DVD d'entrevues à la télévision sur la carrière artistique de Jean Lapointe à des émissions de variétés, des reportages culturels sur des spectacles et albums de Jean Lapointe dont Lapointe avec un S (en collaboration avec son fils Jean-Marie Lapointe) ainsi que sa carrière de comédien en autres avec la sortie du film Le dernier tunnel. Quelques vidéocassettes montrent Jean Lapointe en spectacle dont un Gala juste pour rire et sa participation à l'hommage des 25 ans de la pièce Broue. Une vidéocassette relate aussi les difficultés de santé de son fils Jean-Marie-Lapointe.
Enfin, la série comprend des pochettes de disques, un casse-tête de Jean-Lapointe offert par la revue Lundi et le Prix Nez d'Or 2006 du Festival Grand Rire en hommage à la carrière de Jean Lapointe.
