This series consists of records regarding the advocacy work and awareness-raising activities of the Canadian Historical Association (CHA). The CHA intervenes publicly on matters of professional interest, and advocates on behalf of its members and others interested in advancing the discipline of history in Canada. This series documents the CHA's efforts to foster the study of history by encouraging the accessibility and delivery of funding programs and research services to historians; providing guidance to historians on best practices in scholarship and teaching; protecting the human rights of historians; and encouraging the diversity of both the practitioners and the subject matter of historical studies. The series holds records of its engagement activities, including its partnerships with the Franklin Mint for the official metallic series and with the Millennium Bureau of Canada; the employment of a legal defence fund for the assistance of historians in court cases regarding defamation and plagiarism; and its advocacy on issues like Access to and Freedom of Information; the Census; Library and Archives Canada; Copyright and Intellectual property; and the Status of Women in the Historical Profession. These records include correspondence, press releases, reference material, court documents, project proposals, budget, surveys, and reports.
