Radio play in a series produced for the Department of Health and Welfare as a community service. This episode is about the supervision of the health of young children. The story begins with a fictional character called Edna, mother of Eric, age 8, and Philip, age 4. She is married to Jim. Her husband's Aunt Harriet, is a volunteer for the Health League. Aunt Harriet comes for a visit. Edna and Aunt Harriet have a conversation about Philip's health and Harriet tells her about the importance of continuous health care for a child, taking the child to the doctor once a year instead of only taking him to the doctor when he needs to go. Harriet explains that times have changed in the whole field of health. The present attitude towards good health is broader -- it covers a person's physical, mental, emotional and social state. Vaccines and other shots have cut down so dramatically on communicable diseases that the emphasis is now on other aspects of prevention. Jim and Edna discuss details of the somewhat unwelcome advice Harriet is giving about taking care of their children. Harriet says parents should ask the doctor questions about feeding, immunization, dental care, hearing and sight. Harriet is also concerned that Jim is critical of Philip because he is not a roughneck like his brother Eric. Jim and Edna get upset because they think Aunt Harriet is interfering with their parenting. Edna takes Philip to the doctor and finds out he has nutritional anemia and that is why he is so listless. The doctor advises that he eat more iron-rich foods according to Canada's Food Guide. <10mn>
