The multi-billionaire asset manager Eric Packer wants to get a haircut. To do so, he has to cross Manhattan in his stretch limousine, filled with television screens and computer monitors, bulletproofed and cork lined to eliminate the intrusion of street noise. His journey is obstructed by traffic jams caused by a Presidential visit, anti-capitalist riots, the funeral procession of a music star, and by his own security detail fearing for an attempt on his life. He also has several chance meetings with his wife and sexual encounters with other women. Meanwhile, his fortune is crumbling by betting against the rise of the Yuan. <109mn 14s>
