The fonds consists of scrapbooks, diaries, invitations, brochures, photographs, medals, credentials, cartoons by artists Ausman met while at the YMCA during the Second World War, volumes 1-3 of "Miroir de la Belgique", and an unpublished book that document parts of Leland Ausman's personal life and career as a Trade Commissioner. The records document his postings in Bristol, New York, Léopoldville, Brussels, London and Chicago.

Ausman, Leland, 1907-2007 : Leland (Lee) Ausman was born in 1907 to Herbert and Nellie Ausman (nee Hughes) in Toronto, Ontario. Ausman attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1929. After graduation, Ausman took a job in accounting with the Canadian General Electric Company and wrote the public service exam to become Trade Commissioner in 1929. Ausman joined the Department of Trade and Commerce in 1934 as Assistant Trade Commissioner. His first posting was in Bristol, United Kingdom from 1935-1941. In 1942 he was posted to New York and was promoted to Trade Commissioner in 1945. In 1946, Ausman was posted to Léopoldville, Belgian Congo where he opened the first trade office. Ausman remained at his position in the Belgian Congo until he was posted to Frankfurt. In 1952 Ausman worked in Ottawa as the Assistant Director of the Trade Commissioner Service. In 1954 he was promoted to Director of the Trade Publications Division, and promoted to Inspector of the Trade Commissioner Service in 1957. Ausman was posted to Brussels in 1958. He was posted to London in 1965, to Chicago in 1969 and then worked in Toronto from 1970 until his retirement in 1972. Ausman and his wife, Peggy (Gregory) Ausman belonged to the Methodist church and had one son, John L. Ausman.
