Michael Stone threw a grenade, killing Kevin McCracken. Interviewees comment that British action inadvertently helped the cause of the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Other actuality includes pipers and drummers at the St. Patrick’s Day parade. A Roman Catholic priest, Father Jim Donaghy, complains that British soldiers were taunting school children about the killings in Gibraltar and that the behaviour of the British soldiers leads to more support for the IRA. Belfast journalist Eamon Mallie states that IRA funerals serve to recruit more young people.
