Unedited interview of Hannah Ashrawi in Ramallah in 1988. Ashrawi was born in Ramallah, was educated in Ramallah, Beirut and the United States; is a university professor and writes about Palestinian literature and culture. She speaks about such subjects as: the fight of the Palestinian people for freedom; her trip to the United States to speak about the Palestinian cause; her view that there is growing support by some people in the United States for the Palestinian cause; official support in the United States for Israel; the dynamics of the Intifada; prejudice against Palestinians; a two-state solution; the polarization in Israeli public opinion; the increasing oppression by Israeli forces against Palestinians in the occupied territories; the difficulty of the United States to rid itself of the one-sidedness of its policy towards Israel and the Palestinians; the need for greater understanding; the heavy price paid by the Palestinian people to fight for their rights; the closure of her university and the impact this has had on her career; the impact of the occupation on her family life. <35mn 36s>
