The map depicts the parish of Lorette, located southeast of present-day Winnipeg. As is typical of Métis settlements, the land is divided into long and narrow river lots. Lorette was founded by Métis traders and farmers in the 1860s as Petite Pointe du Chênes, on the Rivière Seine.
This map shows dimensions and acreage of lots, land under cultivation, woodlands, prairie and meadowlands. A stamp from the Technical Division, Dominion Lands Administration, dated 10-2-31, indicates that the item was prepared by R. S. Simpson and checked by A. D. This is the first version, which shows dimensions and acreage of lots, land under cultivation, woodlands, prairie and meadowlands. Information concerning lands patented to individuals appears in red. A stamp from the Technical Division, Dominion Lands Administration, dated 10-2-31, indicates that the item was prepared by R. S. Simpson and checked by A. D. Stewart. The second version (Mikan/item number 4170492) is a transcript which has similar information. It bears a similar stamp, dated 31-5-30, which indicates that the item is "New index map", prepared by J. T. Chalifour. Another note from the Technical Division, dated 24-1-31, indicates that the map was traced by J. T. Chalifour, corrected by S. Williams and checked by T. A.
