This map is from a book published by Chewett & Co. in 1862 and written by H.Y. Hind entitled: A Sketch of an Overland Route to British Columbia. The map uses material from several sources. For the part from Lake of the Woods to the Forks of the Saskatchewan Hind has relied upon the observations of his own group, the Assinniboine & Saskatchewan Expedition of 1859-60. From the forks of the Saskatchewan he has used observations made by Capt. John Palliser and for the parts of British Columbia he has relied on the Blue Book of 1860. The routes across Canada are marked by thick black lines.
