Cette série du troisième versement du fonds Jacques Brault renferme différents états d'écriture des livres suivants de Jacques Brault : l'Artisan, Au coeur du bois, Bernard de Clervaux, Au bras des ombres, Au fond du jardin, différents états de textes publiés en revue dont ceux de Soleil et Lune, ou de textes restés inédits dont ceux du récit Les mains vides, et ceux d'un projet de récit intitulé À coeur ouvert, datant des années 50. On y trouve également des notes sur divers projets d'écriture dont celui d'un projet de livre de renga en prose Éclaicies écrit avec Robert Melançon et un ensemble de textes réunis sous le titre des textes .
La série comprend aussi tous les documents de travail et les états d'écriture de la traduction des différents chapitres de l'Apocalypse, le dossier préparatoire et toutes les étapes de la traduction des poèmes de E.D. Blodgett pour leur livre commun Transfiguration, de même que les traductions de poèmes de Jacques Brault par Philippe Starford et par E.D. Blodgett.
Enfin cette série rassemble plusieurs dossiers intitulés "Varia", " Écrits" ou "Textes" dans lesquels Jacques Brault a rassemblé des notes préparatoires et différents textes sur son expérience poétique, son expérience de professeur, et sur l'oeuvre de différents poètes. Ces dossiers trois types de dossiers renferment aussi des notes de lecture, de notes de cours, de séminaires et de conférences, des textes d'allocutions prononcées lors de colloques ou lors de la réception de prix littéraires, de la correspondance relative à la correction d'épreuves, différentes versions de post-scriptum ou de préfaces à ses propres livres ou à ceux d'autres écrivains, ainsi que différents états d'écriture de réponses à des questionnaires ou de transcriptions d'entretiens, des enregistrements d'entretiens, de même que de la correspondance relatives à des numéros de revue, des textes d'appui à la canditatures de collègues au Prix Athanase David, et des tirés à part d'articles parus en revues. On y trouve entre autres des documents relatifs à l'adaptation pour le théâtre du roman Agonie, les épreuves de Poèmes I, des pages de carnets des années 1960.
Les manuscrits et la plupart des tapuscrits de cette série comportent un grand nombre de ratures, de substitutions et d'ajouts de mots au crayon à la mine et à l'encre de différentes couleurs : bleue pâle, bleu foncé, noire, verte et rouge, ainsi que plusieurs notes en marge du texte. Les dossiers contiennent des bouts de papier, et de nombreux feuillets extraits de cahiers et de carnets de Jacques Brault.
