NORTHERN TOWN is a Canadian comedy mini-series shot entirely in the Yukon. During a cold spell in mid-January, a meteorite flashes across the sky, explodes in the atmosphere, and crashes to earth in the vast wilderness surrounding Henderson, a small town in Northern Canada. The event is witnessed by many residents in and around the community, including Brian, a young man who torpedoes his own best efforts at success. Inspired by this mysterious occurrence, Brian decides to go searching for the meteorite. Heinz, Brian's employer and personal critic tries to deter him, but without success. Brian gets some dubious help from Ivison, who helps him compile an aural ethnography of sightings and anecdotal accounts of the event from the community members with whom he talks. Through the point of view flashback device, different individuals recall the same event differently. In the course of the investigation, Bran is distracted by Mona, a beautiful local Wildlife officer. Brian's challenge also comes in the guise of two American visitors who are themselves interested in the mysterious entity seen in the sky. In the race to find the interstellar object, Brian tries to pit his Yukon street smarts against the intruding military might of the United States, such as it is in this frozen outpost. Permeated with gold rush metaphors, the series provides a sharp commentary on the power of greed, ambition, and good luck, underscoring an array of colourful lifestyles and the eclectic nature of life in a small northern town. In this episode, Brian's quest has led him to Talis Bay where Georgee's family has a summer fish camp. Brian gets Georgee's story on the drive out there. He learns that Grampa Isaac died the night of the meteorite and that he had requested to be buried at the bottom of Talis Lake. In order to fulfill his grandfather's last wish, Georgee needs Brian's help. Mona arrives at the fish camp and tells Brian he is being followed. They deliver Isaac's body to its burial place while she stalls the pursuing Americans and their team. And then they discover a remarkable, shiny object on the surface of the frozen lake. Brian's effort seems to have paid off. <22mn 49s>
