FINAL CURTAIN travels backstage and underground to examine some of the most astounding stories that lurk behind the scenes of the greatest theatres in Canada and the world. These world famous theatres not only have witnessed artistic excellence that has brought countless audiences to their feet in ecstatic ovations, but also each is home to some of the world's long-lasting mysteries. The drama is the theatre, a place where actors and patrons have met their "final curtain". First, the documentary goes to the Garnier Opera House to tell the story of the gruesome and unfortunate incident that inspired Gaston Leroux's 1911 novel, The Phantom of the Opera. Next stop is the Globe Theatre, on the banks of the River Thames, where the illness and subsequent death of a young actor forced William Shakespeare himself to perform. After that, we go to the Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto, whose auditorium contains the seat where the famous bank robber John Dillinger sat moments before he was gunned down by the Chicago FBI. The final stop is the Arena di Verona, which was constructed by the ancient Romans centuries ago, and in which numerous bloody and brutal spectacles took place. <46mn 58s>
