Hosted by the program's creator and executive producer, Lisa Meeches, THE SHARING CIRCLE is a documentary series that features intimate and detailed stories about First Nations people, issues and spirituality. In season fourteen, the series explores topics such as disappearing native languages, urban reserves, environmental issues, two-spirited people, etc. THE SHARING CIRCLE also presents profiles of musicians, artists, athletes and other aboriginal role models. This episode, NOT JUST BEADS AND MOCCASINS, profiles three contemporary Aboriginal artists who adapt traditional art forms into something more contemporary. Greg Hill, Jeff Thomas, and Nadia Myre share a common focus in their work of symbols of Canadian identity. Through performance, photography and visual art, they defy the dominant symbols and the power, control and authority they represent. The episode challenges the widespread perception of contemporary Aboriginal art, proving that it is not only about images of wolves and bears done up in the traditional way of beads and moccasins. <29mn 50s>
