The fonds consists of a selection of 30 prints from Semeniuk's multi-year documentary project, Among the Inuit. Semeniuk traveled to Igloolik several times between 1976 and 1998 to then travel out with Inuit families onto the land for hunting, as well as spending time in the community (This work is separate from his initial work for National Geographic). The photographs he took while on hunting trips document a very important but increasingly threatened aspect of Inuit life. In his writing about his photographs taken in the north, Semeniuk also states that for him, these are the most important of his images, and he much preferred to be out with his companions hunting, rather than in the settlements. The images document various aspects of the hunt, including the involvement of the entire family in the process.

Additionally, the fonds consists of 40 photographs depicting the construction of the Lootas canoe, a traditional Haida War Canoe, built by the artist Bill Reid and members of the Haida Gwaii community in 1985-1986. The canoe was built to be part of Expo '86 in Vancouver. The photographs depict the construction of the canoe, from the felling of the tree to trials of the canoe in the water.

Semeniuk, Robert : Robert Semeniuk has been a full-time, freelance author, photojournalist, human and environmental rights activist for nearly thirty years. For his first job he lived with Inuit for two years, on assignment for National Geographic Magazine. Since then he has worked for most of the world's major magazines, in over 80 countries and a dozen war zones. His work is used by numerous government and non government organizations including: United Nations agencies; the International Committee of the Red Cross (Geneva); the International Committee to Ban Landmines; the World Health Organization, David Suzuki Foundation, Orbis Canada
Robert has degrees in Environmental Studies (Cultural Ecology) and Human Geography. His graduate research introduced him to Canada's Inuit. His extensive experience in developing countries has brought him to the realization that war, poverty, literacy, environmental degradation and health are intricately connected. His work has earned him over forty award nominations, including multiple top honours in National Magazine Awards, The Science Writers Association and The Canadian Association of Journalists.
He has been associated with New York's Black Star Agency for nearly 25 years, and his photography library contains 350,000 images from over eighty countries. He is a founder of On The Ground a tax exempt organization dedicated to helping documentary photographers fund and present important work.
