THE TRUE INTREPID recounts the fascinating story of Canada's own James Bond. Bill Stephensen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and became one of the most influential intelligence agents in Britain and the United States. Everywhere there was intrigue and espionage, Stephensen could be found throughout the Second World War through to the Cold War. Very little is truly known about the man. This documentary is based on the findings in a publication by author, Bill MacDonald. It features interviews with a number of experts who give their insights about Sir Willaim Stephenson. Some of them include Bill MacDonald, author of THE TRUE INTREPID; Roal Dahl, author; Harry Viera, former member of Parliament in Bermuda; professor Brian Loring Villa from the University of Ottawa; Sir Colin Gubbins, special operations executive; Thomas Troy, fromer staff historian at the Central Intelligence Agency; Betty Lussier, former OSS Counter-spy; Peter Worthington, editor for Toronto Sun; Bill Breckman, Stephenson's cousin; Martin French, grandson of Wilfred Russell; Fernande Coulson, former Justice Department Secretary; Evy Gouzenko Wilson, Igor Gouzenko's daughter; various women from BSC Communications; and sound recordings of Elizabeth Wood, Interoffice secretary and "Pat" Bayly. The film also functions as a docudrama, featuring several re-enactment scenes: Krafchenko re-enactment scene, Camp-X Re-enactment scene, Gouzenko re-enactment scene, and Pat Bayly re-enactment scene. It also contains archival footage that shows Sir. William Stephensen, Igor Gouzenko, Winston Churchill, Franklin D. Roosevelt, J.Edgar Hoover, Adolf Hitler and Nazi Germany, various Movietone News, New York's World Fair 1939 entitled "World of Tomorrow", Soviet military parade honouring Joseph Stalin, and a number of other images from the Second World War and the the Cold War. <46mn 50s>
