This sub-sub-series offers an insight into the factors animating political life in the governing Liberal party between 1993 and 2003. Beyond party lines, these exchanges illustrate elected members' personal positions, concerns and misgivings about prominent issues in federal politics at the time. A study of these documents is therefore essential for anyone wishing to understand the workings of power during this 10-year period under Jean Chrétien's Liberal government.

To a lesser degree, this sub-sub-series also sheds light on the work of an M.P. Whether working closely with constituents, acting as liaison between constituents and the Prime Minister, or being a key player in the legislature, the scope of the member's activities is well represented in this correspondence.

This sub-sub-series contains correspondence exchanged between Jean Chrétien and Liberal Members of Parliament. Since some of these members were Cabinet Ministers at the time of the exchanges, the sub-sub-series contains general correspondence between the Prime Minister and members of his Cabinet.

This correspondence consists mainly of comments on government positions, suggested courses of action, courtesy messages (i.e. well wishes, thank you letters, invitations, etc.), and letters from citizens, since elected members often serve as a liaison between constituents and the Prime Minister.

The files are in alphabetical order, as per the original classification. However, we should point out that a large portion of them were assigned a file number, indicating that they were managed via the CCM-DOMUS database of the Correspondence Unit of the Office of the Prime Minister.

This sub-sub-series generally consists of correspondence exchanged between Jean Chrétien and Liberal Members of Parliament. However, certain pieces of M.P. correspondence are probably stored in other sub-sub-series containing correspondence from the Prime Minister's Office.
