The Personal Records Series is comprised of two parts, a block of personal records arranged in alphabetical order by subject and a block of personal records arranged in chronological order (1945-1986). Series contains personal and professional correspondence (copies, originals, and drafts), as well as memoranda, reports, papers given at conferences, calendars and itineraries, notes, university history essays, manuscripts of short stories written by Bob Gordon, lists and inventories, receipts, pamphlets, brochures, clippings, greeting cards and invitations, genealogical records and research notes on the Gordon family, and personal memorabilia.

The records document Bob Gordon's personal life and career including: his incarceration as a Polish POW in German prison camps during World War II, the period immediately after World War II including his time at Borghorst Displaced Persons Camp in Germany, his activities with the BOAR (British Occupying Army of the Rhine) and with the UNRRA (United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration), his immigration to Canada, his studies at McGill University, his long career as an archivist and Director of the Manuscript Division at the Public Archives of Canada, and his work with the Canadian Historical Association (CHA) and the Society of American Archivists (SAA). Also included is material related to Bob Gordon's activities with the National Archival Appraisal Board and his post-retirement tenure as senior advisor to the Assistant National Archivist of Canada. This series also contains records of his Ottawa business, The Autograph Gallery.
