This series comprises records of Harry W. Anderson's parents and sisters, primarily the personal and work-related papers of his father Rev. William Anderson. It includes his sermon notes, correspondence with parishioners, friends and family, as well as details relating to his ministry work and community outreach. There is a scrapbook that brings together clippings of articles on Rev. Anderson's life and work, in addition to clippings on Wycliffe Baptist Chapel, for which he had raised funds and had had built in 1881. There are several files holding memorials of and tributes to the late Rev. Anderson, which suggest that while he died young at age thirty-eight, his religious work inspired many and made a significant contribution to the English Baptist community. This series also includes the personal materials of Anderson's mother (Eleanor Turner Anderson) and two sisters (Annie Duncan Anderson and Eleanore Kinniburgh Anderson). As a bachelor, Anderson remained close to his mother and sisters who all lived with him in Toronto.

Anderson, William : William Anderson was born 10 April 1848, Stirlingshire, Scotland. He moved to Glasgow in 1863 after his father's death. As a young man he found work as a clerk, but with the encouragement of Rev. Richard Glover, at age 17, he gave up his job and adopted the Baptist ministry as his profession. He soon began his missionary work, moving to a remote mining village. In 1866 he was given charge of the chapel at Warkworth, Northumberland. In 1872 he became pastor of King's Road Chapel, Reading, England. Rev. Anderson worked to raise funds for a second chapel in the Reading community. In 1881, Wycliffe Chapel was built in the eastern part of town. Rev. Anderson's health began to deteriorate in 1884. It was in this same year that he took a trip to Canada. After his return to England his health became worse. Following a painful illness, he died 5 February 1886, leaving a widow Eleanor (Turner) Anderson, a son Harry W. Anderson and two daughters Eleanore Kinniburgh Anderson and Annie Duncan Anderson.
