Canadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women

For three days in April 1992, more than a hundred young women shared information about some of the issues important to their lives: racism, self-esteem, education, feminism and sexism, the media and disabilities. The forum was a conference organized by the Canadian Advisory Council on the Status of Women entitled Widening the Circle : A Gathering with Young Women. For the first time, young women in Canada, aged 15 to 19, representing this country's regional, racial, linguistic and cultural diversity, had the opportunity to meet each other and articulate their concerns. Widening the Circle is divided into three parts. Part 1: "Sometimes I wear dresses" is about body-image and self-esteem; Part 2: "I'm not racist, but..." is about racism and prejudice; and Part 3: "It's a man's world, Jennifer" addresses sexism and the "superwoman." <25mn 13s>
