Canada. Dept. of Supply and Services : Following certain recommendations of the Royal Commission on Government Organization, in 1963 a central purchasing and supply agency is put in place to meet civilian and military supply needs.

Other recommendations of the Glassco Commission regarding the establishment of a federal government central purchasing and supply agency led in 1966 to a reorganization of the Department of Defence Production.

On July 12, 1968, the Prime Minister announced the creation of the new Department of Supply and Services. This Department included the Department of Defence Production, as it was at the time, and the Directorate of International Programs was transferred to the Department of Industry and Commerce.

On December 12, 1968, the Treasury Board approved the recommendations of the task force regarding the integration of the Department of the Queens Printer and the Directorate of Naval Construction of the Department of Transport into the Department of Supply and Services.

On April 1, 1969, the Department of Supply and Services was officially established.

In 1993, the federal government launched a substantive reorganization by amalgamating the Department of Supply and Services with the Department of Public Works (RG11). The new Department, Public Works and Government Services Canada, became the third largest department in number of employees.
