The trip begins at sea, crossing the tropic of Cancer before arriving in Sydney after a 10,000 mile journey from New York. Maps are compared, from the 1527 version, with no Australia on it, to the 1595 version with "Terra Australis", to the later versions featuring a more accurate projection of the southern continent.~Some of the heavily water damaged legible inter-titles that appear in the film: Title number (1): "And now we have 750(?) miles of water between (?) and Australia". Title number (9): We cross the Tropic of Cancer on Dec. 21st - and the sun is straight above us at noon!". Title number (10): "We arrive at Sydney Australia". Title number (14): "Where Australia should be is blank - it was unknown to white men then at the beginning of the 16th Century". Title number (17) and last on the roll: "So the people of the Middle 16th century must have had an idea that the Great Southern Continent did exist".
