Compilation tracing the evolution of CBC television from the early 50s to the 80s. Noteworthy programs from those years are shown.~'55 IN REVUE, a television entertainment program of comic revue satirizing topical events of the year. An evening of humour, modern dance, songs and the chorus of Victor Feldbrill. Sketches, inspired by Canadian news stories, poke fun at: Canadian-American relations; uranium prospecting; cultural elitism; unabated business prosperity in Canada; the Canadian farmer; and suburban commuting. The performers are Mavor Moore, Helene Winston, Robert Goulet, Kathie Burt, Sammy Sales, Paul Kligman, Alfie Scopp, Don Harron, Sylvia Gillespie, Juan Root, Diana Laurier, Glynne Morris, and Herb Gott. The cartoons were taken from the work of newspaper cartoonists Len Norris of the Vancouver Sun and Lapalme of the Devoir. This program was originally telecast on January 1, 1956 as part of the series CBC FOLIO.~SUN IN MY EYES, a television drama by Jack Kuper starring: Kenneth Ponzo as Yankel; Al Waxman as Moishe; Toby Robins as Mother; and Ruth Springford. The play is directed by Harvey Hart. A Jewish family finds refuge in a small village in Poland during the Nazi occupation. The play deals with the struggle for surivival and the sacrifices along the way. In the midst of anti-semitism and Nazi oppression, there are glowing moments of kindness. It is also the story of the self-sacrifice of an uncle for his child nephew. Originally telecast as part of the series ENCORE in 1961.~PRESENTING BARRY MORSE, 1960.~GRAPHIC, a television documentary and entertainment program hosted by Joe McCully and René Lecavalier. Lecavalier interviews Maurice "Rocket" Richard, and his wife and children in their home. A clip is shown of Richard's son, Norman, skating on Forum ice with his dad. Jamie Morton gets his first haircut in an Italian Canadian barbershop while his mother watches. The breathalyzer is introduced. The Director General of the Ontario Attorney-General's Crime Lab, Dr. Smith, talks about the new test. A test is performed on a live subject. Finishes with an item about being backstage at the opera.~Interview with Al Waxman, Canadian actor, talking about his career, the job of television director and his association with Jack Kuper, the playwright.~Program ends with a preview of the next program in the series. Excerpts include: TABLOID, with Percy Saltzman doing the weather; a 1958 interview with A.Y. Jackson, conducted by Joyce Davidson and Percy Saltzman; a 1958 clip from THE DIARY OF A SCOUNDREL, starring William Hutt; and a clip from THE BARRIS BEAT, with "The Great Ballantyne", a comedian, performing. <148mn 6s>
