Fraser Kelly reports on the following: Prime Minister Trudeau's energy policy; the Hunza Valley and its people; Gerald Ford's swearing in as Vice-President; and Sandy Hawley, a Canadian jockey's 486 horse-race wins. Shots of an oil refinery and a sea-based oil rig operation. Scenes of Hunza, ceremonial dances, villages and school children. Shots of snow-capped Hunza Valley mountain tops. Peter Jennings conducts an interview with the leader of the Hunzukuts, who talks about the undesirable influence of western hippies living among them. Shot of hotel building construction in the Hunza Valley. Shot of President Nixon and Mrs. Ford standing by Mr. Ford during his inauguration ceremony. Kelly interviews George Manuel, President of the National Indian Brotherhood, about his organization's conflict with the James Bay Corporation. Mr. Kelly also invites him to talk about the Indian's self-image (via the White Man's history book), about their value system, Amerindian culture, the setting of land claims, discrimnation against Indians, changing attitudes of white people, Indian youth, violent protest and demonstration on behalf on Indian rights, and legislative discrimnation against Indian women. Fraser Kelly ends his program with a postscript comment supporting the pay hike Ontario MPPs' are receiving. <28mn>
