Journal written by Captain Richard Harrison of a trip through Canada, the United States and Bermuda taken by Col. Jervois, R.E., and Captain Harrison, R.E., in 1863. The engineers travelled from Liverpool to Canada landing at Halifax in September 1863. The primary purpose of the trip was to examine barracks, guard houses, forts and other structures, existing or proposed. Descriptions of several forts appear in the journal, e.g., Fort Schamyl, Fort Preble, etc. Among the locations visited were: Halifax, St. John's, Portland, Boston, Niagara Falls, Hamilton, Toronto, Kingston, Montreal, Quebec, New York, Albany and Washington. Photocopy, 93 pages.

Acquired in 1991 from the Royal Engineers Museum in Kent, England, through the London Office of the National Archives.
