This is a program in a CBC radio series, presenting features, weather, sports, and music which include the following segments in today's ASSIGNMENT series. Gordon Sinclair reads the national weather. Reporter, Ian Bickle, attends the annual trapper's festival in The Pas, Manitoba. Square dance and fiddlers' contest music is heard briefly. A Winnipeg newspaperman talks about how the festival started. Eileen McEachern, President, Canadian Kennel Club (CKC), interviewed by Dave Price, talks about CKC activities such as organizing and judging dog shows. She also talks about obedience, training, and breeding. Reporter, Don Thomas, talks to a Canadian paratrooper who was dragged behind an aircraft, in freezing weather, when his parachute failed to open. Thomas emphasizes the recurrence of the numbers 3 and 13, in the events that led up to the incident. Wayne and Shuster, interviewed by Gerry Quinney, talk about their post war work advertising war veteran's benefits in a radio series; and their readjustment to civilian audiences. Tim Curran, on the 40th anniversary of Estonian Independence, talks about that country's history and music. Some music and the national anthem are heard. Timothy Green reports on the Cambridge University Tiddly Winks Club's formal challenge to Prince Philip and describes the club's scientific approach to the game. Don Gordon, London, England, reports on the etiquette involved in challenging Prince Phillip to a game of tiddlywinks against members of the BBC's comedy team, the Goons. James Bannerman, interviewed by Howard Engel, acknowledges that his real name is Jack McNaught. Bannerman talks about Max Ferguson's imitation of his voice, his early endeavors as a boxer, a gigolo, and a counter spy and how he started at the CBC and praises his wife. Charles Camsell, pioneer of Canada's North, interviewed by Bob Bowman, talks about the longest snowshoe trip ever made, 2500 miles travelled by his father; and the dog team run from Fort Garry to Fort McPherson called the Hudson Bay Packet. <1h><1h>
