First part of a seminar held by Foster Advertising on the potential of colour television broadcasting as an advertising medium. Following introductory remarks by an unidentified Foster Advertising official, Bill [Straiton], the head of television production for the Foster Advertising agency Ontario division, begins the seminar. He talks about the public's attitude to advertising. The presentation includes the showing of slides and a five-minute colour film depicting products advertised by Foster Advertising to give an idea of what colour television commercials would look like.~Cliff [Braggins], the copy chief at Foster Advertising, talks briefly about the importance of adapting all aspects of television commercial production, including advertising copy, to colour production.~The next speakers are Herman [Idell], Tom Anthony and Howard Cable of Music Makers Incorporated, specialists in writing music for advertising. Their presentation includes the showing of some commercials and the playing of some sound recordings of musical selections that demonstrate how the concept of colour can be expressed in sound.~Calvin [McLaughlin], a copy group head at Foster Advertising, introduces the next speaker, Al Bruner, head of sales and marketing for CHCH-TV in Hamilton, Ontario. The recording on side one of the tape ends shortly after Bruner begins his talk about colour television in Canada.~Dave [Parry], a copywriter at Foster Advertising, is the first speaker on side two. He introduces [Carlton Winkler], the director of production standards and practices for the CBS television network in New York. Winkler talks about the technical aspects of colour television production, including cameras, the accurate reproduction of reds, greens and skin tones, and lighting.~Next, [Klaus More], the art director of Foster Advertising, introduces [Lou Darcy], the director of design for CBS television in New York. [Darcy] talks about problems with colour accuracy and states that if a commercial is good it will also succeed in colour.~Paul Sutherland, a copywriter at Foster Advertising, introduces [Harley] Parker, head of exhibit design at the Royal Ontario Museum. He talks about how people associate colour with images, such as a blue sky, rather than thinking of colour as an abstract concept. The tape ends while Parker is still talking.
