Series consists of general correspondence files; files on artists' organizations, galleries and museums, various projects; exhibition catalogues; and clippings.
The general correspondence files include correspondence with commercial galleries, such as Gallery Graphics in Ottawa (writing in connection with a fire on its premises), Galerie Lara Vincy, Monique de Groote Galerie d'Art, Roberts Gallery, Galeries Place Royale (re. an anti-Vietnam war exhibition), Beckett Gallery, Galerie Mouffe, etc.; with artists' organizations, such as the Canadian Group of Painters, Society of Canadian Painter-Etchers and Engravers, Canadian Society of Graphic Art, Royal Canadian Academy of Arts, and with museums such as the London Public Library and Museum, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, Vancouver Art Gallery, Musée du Québec, etc.; with various Jewish women's organizations (a letter from Foundation for Judaism 1967 bears sketches by Steinhouse); and with other organizations, including The Voice of Women and Canadian Peace Research Institute. The general correspondence files include a letter from Richard Lacroix inviting Steinhouse to join l'Association des Peintres du Québec 1966 and a report on its first meeting; also included is correspondence with John Sommers re. his portfolio project 1968 and with F.W. Ellis & Associates (Vancouver) re. another portfolio project 1968; and correspondence about international print exhibitions.
The files on galleries and museums include ones for the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Atelier libres des Recherches graphiques/le Guilde graphique, le Conseil québécois de l'Estampe, Canadian Group of Painters, Galerie Agnes Lefort, Here and Now Gallery, and the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts. There is also a file on the National Gallery including letters from Claude Picher, Richard Simmons, Russell Harper and Kathleen Fenwick. There is file on the Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training, with pencil sketches by Tobie Steinhouse of a medal she designed for them. There is a file on Paris regarding sketches Steinhouse did for Fashion magazine in 1948, and documentation on the Exposition de Peintres et Sculpteurs canadiens in Paris 1949. There are some oversize posters filed at the end of the series, including one for le Galerie Lara Vincy 1957 and a hand-lettered one for le Galerie d'Art du Parc 1992.
The projects files include Poetry files, documenting projects with Louis Dudek and Miriam Waddington. Included are three letters from Louis Dudek 1960-1993, discussing a poem dedicated to Tobie Steinhouse by Pamela Fry 1960 and a proposed portfolio of Dudek poems and Steinhouse prints. There are four letters from Miriam Waddington sending poems, including one about Tobie Steinhouse's studio. There is also a letter from Robert Weaver to Herbert Steinhouse criticizing the Pamela Fry poem.
