This sub-series consists of maps that were created in the Canadian Geographic Information System. The Wetlands Collection, was part of the Canada Lands Data Systems Division, Lands Directorate data holdings that were managed in the Canadian Geographic Information System (CGIS). The Collection consists of the following three projects:
The Tantramar Wetlands (Project 202-2105). The project was part of the Canada Land Use Monitoring Program (CLUMP) wetlands studies and it is believed to be the only detailed wetland study initiated under that program. The Tantramar datasets depict land use/land cover conditions in 1961 and 1981 over a study area which captures most of the wetlands near the border between the provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. Unlike other CLUMP land use change studies, 1981 represents the base year of the inventory and the 1961 land use is derived from the 1981 mapping and a change overlay to represent the changes going back to 1961. For Tantramar, both years were mapped using a CLUMP-like 4-character land activity/land cover-coding scheme, with an additional modifier code for dyked lands. The 4-character codes are similar to those of the other CLUMP studies, but the codes are extended to include features particular to the Tantramar wetlands study area.
The Tantramar data was stored in three coverages: Two coverages by land use year, coverage (9360) for 1981 base year and coverage (9383) for the 1981-1961 update. The land use attribute codes for 1981 and the 1961 update codes were all coded in the originally recovered data. In both coverages, the required data was extracted on the basis of six individual 1:50,000 NTS map sheets. CLI land capability for agriculture (from coverage 200X) was also available for the matching NTS map sheets but the corresponding CLI shoreline was not digitized in that area. However the base land use year (from coverage 9360) contains an accurate depiction of the coastline within the project study area. The third coverage (8004) Tantramar Wetlands, consists of point data which identifies land features cycles 1961 and 1981 of the Tantramar area at the 1:50,000 scale.
The Newdale Plain Pilot Study (South Western Manitoba), (Project 202-2108). The Newdale Plain data was stored in four coverages: (8049) Historical Westlands, point data, depicts land features, cycles 1985, 1964, 1948 of each of the transect pilot study areas to small to be identified as polygon areas; (9384) 1985 Base Year Land Use; (9385) 1985-1969 Land Use change; (9386) 1969-1948 Land Use Change. Coverages are at the 1:12,500 scale.
The Western Wetlands Transect Pilot Study, (Project 202-2104). The data was stored in an individual coverage (9366) 1985 Land Use. Coverage is at the 1:12,500 scale.
