Footage of Canadian army units crossing the Lamone River in Italy. When the First Canadian Corps in Italy moved north after the capture of Ravenna, it found the swift flowing Lamone River. The Canadians fought their way up the main highway to Venice until they could no longer take their tanks with them. Leaving their tanks south of the river with just enough men to handle their guns and give proper support, the infantry moved ahead without meeting too much opposition. Under enemy artillery fire, they pushed ahead, driving the Germans back toward the Po River, while Spitfire bombers strafed the area into which the attack was pointed. The scenes are as follows: Six-inch shot of six bombers in formation flying over the forward lines to bomb enemy roads and gun positions, with Ack-Ack bursting around them as they move to the North East; six-inch shot of demolished bridge with partisans and men; medium shot of signals laying wire with the help of the partisans and refugees trying to get across the blown bridge; medium shot of two of the troopers of the LDs, H. Trooper J.B. Lessard of St. Thomas, Ontario, and Trooper J. Dufresne of Lancaster, Ontario, moving up the road as an old Italian walks along amid falls shells; medium long shot of Lessard and Dufresne looking at tracks made by a German Half Track that has pulled out of a farm yard in a great hurry a few short hours before; medium long shot of a German MK 6 Tiger Tank smoking as some of the men move past; shot using a two-inch lens of troops going across the Lamone river and shots showing shells falling about 80 feet from the camera (owing to the heavy shelling the cameraman did not have time to make notes); medium long shot of two tanks of the Armoured Brigade moving up the road into firing positions; and close-up/long shot of the same two tanks moving along the road away from the camera. <2mn>
