He begins with his opinion of attitudes of Canadians toward the worrisome events in Europe, the fear of impending war, the mood of the isolationists in contrast to the support for the plight of Britain in face of Germany's growing aggression. He discusses the Canadian Institute for International Affairs which he joined in 1936. Continuing with the impending war, Irwin discusses the fall of France, the threat to Britain and the Ogdensberg Agreement between Canada and the United States for the mutual defence of North America. He also comments on the atomic bombing of Japan and the profound effect and lasting effect the world and its population.
