Collection comprises material relating to the production of the comic book series and the newspaper strips of "Captain Canuck Reborn". Included are the original drawings for both comic book plates and strips, promotional artwork, roughs of character sketches, an anti-smoking poster featuring the superhero, artwork for trading cards, an advertising campaign, and a colouring contest.

Copies of the published comics are available on the accession file.

Note générale :

The comic books were published in 1993 through to 1994 and featured a new take on the Captain Canuck superhero, setting the plot in contemporary times with a character named "Darren Oaks" who battled a global conspiracy.

Newspapers which ran the comic strip version included the Sudbury Star, the Ottawa Citizen, the Timmins Daily Press, the Brandon Sun, the Cambridge Times, the Guelph Mercury, the Kirkland Lake Daily News, and the Charlottetown Times.

Note sur l'édition :

Captain Canuck #0 was published in a run of 100,000 copies with 400 "ashcan" black and white copies distributed and sold throughout North America and overseas.

Issue #1 enjoyed a run of 87,000 copies which was printed in two formats - newstand and prebagged collectors editions which came with two trading cards.

Issue #2 had an edition of 32,000 copies printed in full colour. In addition, four full colour trading cards of the characters from the series, each with a run of 100,000 were used in promotions and included with issue #1.

The original artwork for the series was acquired through two separate backers of the project.

Thirty-two works were chosen for an exhibition in 2002 at the Burlington Art Centre, the Kor Gallery in Kitchener and the Cambridge Gallery.
