Fonds consists of microfilmed selections of the Gibbs Archives (Guildhall Library references MS 11073 to MS 11083) that, for the most part, pertain to their business in Canada and North America. Includes bills of sale of merchant ships; correspondence and papers relating to business between the Liverpool partnership and Crookshank & Walker of Saint John, New Brunswick, merchants and correspondence relating to business between the Liverpool partnership and Stephen Wiggins & Son and G. Morrisey & Shives, merchants, both of St. John, New Brunswick, 1859. There is also correspondence between the Liverpool partnership and John Steadman of Petitcodiac, County Westmoreland, New Brunswick, merchants, chiefly relating to freighters and ships' insurance, 1840-1842. This material is located on microfilm reels A-2153 to A-2154.

Antony Gibbs and Sons : Antony Gibbs & Sons was composed of two associated business houses. The first, in Bristol, originated in an eighteenth century partnership between George Gibbs, brother of Antony Gibbs, and Samuel Monkley. The other house, in Liverpool, was founded in 1805 as Gibbs, Thompson and Company. From 1881, the two houses were reorganized under the management of Antony Gibbs & Sons.

The business of Antony Gibbs & Sons was founded in London in 1808. It traded actively throughout the world. It became the property of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
