The fonds contains the complete archival record of the work of the Canadian Army War Crimes Investigation Section relating to the war crimes investigations and trials of Japanese officers and camp personnel accused of atrocities against Canadian prisoners-of-war at Hong Kong during the Second World War. This includes local administration records, personnel and case files, and news clippings. Also included are personal writings and speeches by Major George B. Puddicombe, documenting his activities as prosecutor, as well as original photographs with negatives, documenting his official and personal activities and interests in Hong Kong and Japan.

The fonds has been divided into the following series: War Crimes Investigation, Local Administration, 1945-1947; War Crimes Investigation, Personnel and Cases, 1939-1947; News clippings, 1946-1948; Personal Writings and Speeches, 1946-1951; Photographs.

Puddicombe, George B., 1898-1971 : George B. Puddicombe was born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1898. Following two years service with the Canadian Field Artillery in the First World War, he attended McGill University, graduating in Arts in 1923 and in Law in 1926. He practised law in Montreal until 1940 when he joined the Victoria Rifles of Canada as their paymaster. After serving some years with the regiment, G.B. Puddicombe went to National Defence Headquarters in Ottawa and, except for an eight month period as Permanent President of Courts Martial in Montreal and Petawawa, he remained there until the end of the war. In 1946 he became a member of the Canadian Army War Crimes Investigation Section's legal team for the war crimes trials in connection with the prosecution of Japanese officers and camp personnel accused of atrocities against Canadian prisoners-of-war in Japan and Hong Kong. Following his release from the Army, he returned to law practise in Montreal. He was named a King's Counsel in January 1947 and was appointed to the Quebec Superior Court in November 1960. George B. Puddicombe died 18 October 1971 in Montreal.
