Series consists of sketchbook with 84 leaves containing 179 drawings. Drawings depict view of Quebec City, Wolfes Cove, Madawaska, Taschereau seigneury, Eastern Townships, the Maine-New Brunswick boundary commission work of 1843-1845 and personal views including portraits relating to the Estcourt family and Commissioner Smith of the American Boundary Commission. The works are by James Bucknall Bucknall Estcourt (1809-1855) and his wife, Caroline Bucknall Estcourt.

The series contains two watercolours and 179 sketches from the Niagara region, Quebec and environs, and Montreal, including views of houses in which the Estcourts lived, their neighbours (including "The Good woman of colour"), and of the Beauce region in Quebec, all done during the Estcourts' stay in Canada from 1838 to 1844. Most of the works are probably by James Bucknall Bucknall Estcourt (1809-1855) while there are a number of identified works by Caroline Bucknall Estcourt (nee Pole-Carew) (1809-1886). The works are initialled CBE or JBBE and are sometimes difficult to distinguish from one another. The works were originally in an album.

Also included are five watercolours depicting views of various sites in New Brunswick, including "On River St. John"; "Near Fredricton";"Restigouche, New Brunswick"; Grand Falls, St. John [river]", all by Caroline Bucknall Bucknall Estcourt. There are also two prints by the same artist, one of a winter scene on the St. Lawrence River near Québec City, and the other depicting show shoeing near Québec.
