Film includes scenes from publishing party with shots of Governor General Roland Michener, poet Irving Layton, author Earle Birney and others; interviews with McClelland's wife, Elizabeth and one of his daughters; and scenes of a typical day in his life including a promotional book-drive in aid of charity with Toronto mayor David Crombie taking part.
