Press conference held by Sheila Finestone, Liberal MP and communications critic, and by Ian Waddell, New Democratic Party MP and communications critic.~In an opening statement the participants criticize the Film Products Importation Act for its concessions to the Motion Picture Association of America and its failure to give control of films distributed in Canada to the Canadian film distribution system. Related topics covered are: the recommendations of the Film Industry Task Force and of a green paper entitled, "Vital Link" which supports greater control of the Canadian market by Canadian distributors; the role of Canada-United States free trade deal in watering down the film distribution legislation; investment in Canadian movies by foreign companies; access of Canadian feature films to Canadian movie screens; and possible reaction of Canadian distributors to the bill.
