Fonds consists of instructional and promotional films detailing the world-wide operations of INCO Limited and its subsidiaries. The films explain mining and refining technologies, and illustrate various uses for nickel, nickel alloys, copper, and palladium. Included is extensive footage of the development of Thompson, Manitoba from site surveys in the 1950s through to the early 1970s. Also included is a documentary about the history of mining in Northern Ontario, with emphasis on the contribution made by INCO, broadcast by Global Television on 22 September 1991. Fonds also includes oral history interviews with retired INCO miners, recorded in the early 1970s.

Also included in fonds are 2 commemorative medallions of the first production of nickel at the INCO-Thompson Development at Thompson, Manitoba (1961), designed by Dora de Pedery Hunt; and 2 replicas of the C.I.M. INCO Medallion designed by Robert Tait Mackenzie.

Inco Limited : The Toronto headquartered company, Inco Limited, is the world's leading producer of nickel and a substantial producer of copper, precious metals and cobalt. Other areas in which INCO is a major producer are wrought nickel alloys (a world leader), sulphuric acid and liquid sulphur dioxide. Its interests also include other metals, venture capital, mining equipment manufacturing and engineering and technology. International Nickel co. was incorporated in New Jersey on April 1, 1902. It was a holding company merging the interests of: Canadian Copper Company; Orford Copper Company; The Anglo-American Iron Company; American Nickel Works; Nickel Corporation Limited; Vermillion Mining Company of Ontario, and Société Minière Caledonienne. The establishment of International Nickel Company of Canada, Ltd. in 1916 as a Canadian operating subsidiary of the International Nickel Company of Canada Ltd marked the emergence of a major Canadian concern in the mining industry. In 1928, the Canadian subsidiary became the parent company through an exchange of shares. The acquisition by Inco in 1929 of Mond Nickel Co., Ltd., a British firm incorporated in 1900 to mine in the Sudbury Basin, was a notable expansion initiative. Inco's principal mines and processing operations are located in the Sudbury area of Ontario, in the Thompson area of Manitoba and, through a 98%-owned subsidiary (P.T. International Nickel Indonesia), on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Its nickel-refining interest in Japan through 2 affiliated companies is an addition to to metals refineries in Port Colborne, Ont., Clydach, Wales, and Acton, England.
