The Fonds documents the philatelic activities of Hugo Griebert from 1919 to 1924 and particularly the well reception of his book "The stamps of Spain, 1850 and 1854" for which he won the Crawford medal.

The fonds includes two files. It consists of a scrapbook and a file of loose scrapbook pages containing letters to Hugo Griebert, reviews and press clippings related to the publication of the book "The Stamps of Spain, 1850 to 1854". It includes the letter sent by The Royal Philatelic Society, London informing him that he won the Crawfort medal. Some press clippings relate the death of Hugo Griebert in 1924.

Griebert, Hugo, 1867-1924 : Born in 1867, Hugo Griebert became a leader in the British wholesale stamp trade. As a dealer, he operated his business in London from 1886 until his retirement in 1921. Griebert was a well-known philatelist who in 1910 wrote the book A study of the stamps of Uruguay. His major contribution came in 1919 with the publication of his book The stamps of Spain, 1850 to 1854, for which he received the Crawford Medal of the Royal Philatelic Society in 1920. Earlier the same year, he also received the Lindenberg Medal, one of the highest honours in international philately. A year later his name was placed on the Roll of Distinguished Philatelists. During his career, he wrote many articles and from 1908 to 1921 published the periodical Griebert's philatelic notes & offers. Ill at the end of his career, he died July 23, 1924.
