Montage with a horse drawn wagon loaded with long, solid pine posts arriving at the construction site of a barn. Sixteen or so men unload and carry the posts to the foundation of the barn. A man hammers a steel peg into a post.~Workers arrive at a farm and walk towards a long table set up outside. They take their seats and start eating. The forty-four or so men are served by the womenfolk. Workers and some women rest on the lawn after lunch.~An impressive sequence shows bents (the frame of the side wall of the barn) being raised by a large crowd of men. Some men are lifted with the bents. Sides are raised by large pole pushed by the men on the ground. Another group of men pull the frame by ropes from outside of the barn. One man is shown being raised with the frame. The long poles are placed in new positions for better leverage. With one side of the barn up and in position, the second bent is raised in the same manner. Women watch in the foreground.~The ladder that will lead to the grain loft is shown already mounted to the second bent.~Girts (beams that are joined to the bents) are shown being raised. Men fit the girts to the bents. One man almost falls from the top. In raising the main centre bent more girts are hoisted and joined.~A crowd in the foreground watches the men standing on scaffolding over the cement foundation of the barn. People scurry about in the foreground as more bents are raised.~A "sky" crew joins the top posts. Men work on the lower beams. The seventh bent is shown being raised. The whole structure is seen as the eighth and final bent is moved into place. The last bent is secured to the structure with horizontal beams. Shots of roof construction and activity at the lower section of the barn is shown.~Men sit down at long tables on the lawn for a meal prepared by the women. <15mn>
