Collection consists of philatelic memorabilia related to Toronto's first post office. An invitation and six postal covers document the re-opening of the post office as a museum in 1983. The covers have been signed by the cachet artist, Richard D. Brown, and include designs of the Post Office, Postmasters James Scott Howard and Charles Albert Berczy, and the Head Office of the Bank of Upper Canada. Two first day of issue postal covers, dating from 1983, were privately issued by the Town of York Historical Society to recognize the issuing, by Canada Post, of a stamp depicting Toronto's first post office.

Town of York Historical Society : The Town of York Historical Society was founded in 1983 as an extension of the project to restore Toronto's First Post Office. Its official mission is to research, interpret, and promote the history of The Town of York and early Toronto, and to foster the preservation of the Town of York's surviving built environment.

The Town of York Historical Society operates Toronto's First Post Office and Museum, emphasizing the importance of postal service in the communications of Upper Canada.

Opened in 1833, the fourth post office of the Town of York became the first post office of the City of Toronto when the city incorporated on 6 March 1834. It is situated on the corner of Duke (now Adelaide St. E.) and George Sts. William Lyon Mackenzie, Egerton Ryerson, and John Baldwin are known to have rented post office boxes there.

Beginning in 1834, James Scott Howard, the first postmaster, lived in the post office building with his family. He was dismissed in 1837, without formal charges, because of presumed links to the Rebellion of Upper Canada. He was succeeded by Charles Albert Berezy (founder of the Consumers Gas Company). Berezy lived at the post office building until 1839, when the post office was relocated.

After 1839, Toronto's First Post Office building was put to a variety of uses, including a private residence, a Catholic Boy's School, annex to Christie's Biscuit Factory, recruitment and training centre for the Royal Air Force during World War I, and the United Farmer's Co-operative offices and cold storage facility. The building suffered a fire in 1978, afterwhich it was restored and opened as a museum operated by The Town of York Historical Society. Documents within accession files.
