Canada 92 (1992 : Montréal, Quebec) : In 1992, Canada was host to the 11th Annual World Philatelic Youth Exhibition, entitled Canada 92. Held March 25-29, the exhibition was only the second major international exhibition for young people held outside of Europe. The event was held under the patronage of the Federation Internationale de Philatélie with sponsorship from the Royal Philatelic Society of Canada, and Canada Post Corporatation, and with support from the Fédération Québécoise de Philatélie.

The objective of Canada 92 was to promote the educational and cultural values of stamps and stamp collecting for youth. The central activity of the exhibiton was to display stamp collections of different types from around the world. Stamp collections were put together by 500 youths, aged 14 to 21. Collections were judged and awarded medals and prizes. Besides the stamp collectors, there was participation by 20 stamp dealers, 17 international postal administrations, and many different philatelic organizations. Canada Post Corporation, being the host postal administration, issued various commemorative philatelic items and produced many exhibits. Exhibition activities included videos, seminars, workshops, an inter-active youth activity area, auctions, exhibitions, and engraving demonstrations.

Also occuring in 1992 was the 350th anniversary of the founding of Montreal. The exhibiton was held in Montreal and became part of the city's events calendar for the anniversary celebrations. The history of the city served as a central theme for the philatelic exhibition. The main theme chosen for Canada 92 was Exploration, in recoginition of the number of important anniversaries relating to the themes of exploration and discovery celebrated in 1992. These included the 500th anniversary of the journey of Christorpher Columbus, the 350th anniversary of the founding of the city of Montreal, the 125th anniversary of Canada's confederation, and the 150th anniversary of Geological Survey of Canada. The material was transferred in April 1997 to the National Archives of Canada by Denis Hamel, Executive Director of Canada 92.
